To my dear informed friends this subject of EHIC pops up again and again. This one is different.
They are British. They are do have Spanish residency They do pay Cat Salut monthly for both of them Uk will not issue them with an Ehic because they are resident here. Spain Social will not release their EHIC as they are not pensioners. What are they to do??? |

Hi Ebrovoice, This is what the leaflet from the mosses tells us:
-Everyone has the right to healthcare and merely needs to be registered in Catalonia. -Newcomers who do not have their administrative papers in order and are not on the register have the right to emergency healthcare in health centres or at home, for both accidents and serious illnesses. -To obtain a health card you should go to your nearest health centre with your record of registration and complete the application. There also is a lot of info (also in english) on www.gencat.cat and there is a helpline (the info is in english, so i assume they also have english operators....) 24-hour Sanitat Respon helpline: Call 902 111 444, the Sanitat Respon helpline number, for any question your have about your health or about health-related issues. Hope this helps, Mark |

thanks for the info.
What they are wanting to do is visit the Uk and be covered for healthcare while there. The dept in Uk has sais social here must give it to them .Social here says no...they are not pensioners and msut get it from the Uk. That is there dilemma. but will pass this on to them. Thanks |

Hi Ebrovoice,
It seems they don't fully understand the EU rules in Spain. But the EU commission is going to change that: "Commission warns Spain on EU pensioners' access to necessary healthcare" http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=IP/09/295&format=HTML&aged=0&language=EN&guiLanguage=en Mark |

Hi Ebrovoice
Did you see the planned open house meetings with the British Consul listed in Whats on in the Olive Press, I believe there is one in Tarragona and I think one of the subjects will be Health care amongst other subjects Regards Stu |

Thanks Stu. No have not picked up that copy. I had heard there would be open meetings across Spain but nothing specific. Something really needs to be done about these grey areas and needs to be uniform across all EU countries whichever one folk resides in.
You are a font of information and I thank you kindly. |
