Hi All,
       Can anyone tell me the dates and rules to burning my olive prunings.Can I burn in a large metal barrell in the "off season" or would this be frowned upon.Also what is to stop one having a "camp-fire / barbeque" in the evening using olive trimmings for fuel ?

Hi

You can burn trimmings in a barrel but the barrel ideally should have a a lid and a chimney with a mesh flue cap to stop sparks and burning leaves from starting other fires that you don't want, the locals still burn trimmings but you will find they have applied for a license to burn in the off season.

If you do start an unintentional fire you can be fined if the bombas have to come and put it out

Even outside BBQs should have a proper enclosure a chimney and a mesh cowl

But if you want to risk it !!

I would try to find an old oil barrel and play it safe!!

You can get a permis to have a fire on your finca from your local adjunament free of charge.  They are currently only issuing them to run until the end of April but last year there was an extension of a month, presumably because it had been quite wet, but you still have to go and get a revised permis.  You can burn between the hours of 6am to 12 midday Monday to Saturday.  The Agents Rurals do check on this and have visited our finca and checked our permis.   Fires are strictly forbidden after April/May until (I think) the beginning of November, again check with your local town hall.

As hazelnut says if the bombers get called out to a fire on your finca you will almost certainly get a hefty fine and charged for the callout!

       Thanks for all the advice on my fires, as I don't live in the Campo all year it looks like I'll have to pile them up until after the Summer or burn some in the barbie.Is there any danger that a pile of trimmings could catch fire in the Summer sun ?

Leaves are not likely to catch fire inless there is a bit of broken glass or a bottle nearby! they act as magnifying glasses and can cause a fire via the sun

Are you near a road or track? if so keep the leaves and trimmings away from it, it only takes one carelessly discarded smouldering f*g to start off your pile, and even if it wasn't your fault the fine and the bombers will still charge!!

Tested my new outside boiler today with leaf litter and tree trimmings, it took longer than I thought but I got 150ltrs of hot water 70 deg in 3 hours from one of those cheap stove they sell in Sabecos and Garcias, it was worth the time and money converting it and I can now burn right through the summer and get free hot water, and still have a cool Casita

                   It looks and sounds just the answer to my "burning desires" - are they still on sale and if so for how much ?Also do they consume lots of trimmings as I have several mountains of them.

Yes I think they are still on sale may be not at Sabecos but definately at Garcias next door to Carrefor Tortosa search around though you might get a cheaper one as it is past keeping your Casita warm time should only be about €75 to 150, or why not post a wanted add on the Tortosa Forum ? you never know someone may have upgraded!! If you don't want to make a stove with a back boiler just get an old oil barrel to burn trimmings, or I have one already converted with a lid and chimney for €30 ring me on 977059254 or 679832221 if you are interested regards Stuart

Just been to the town hall in tortosa to get another fire license - it lasts all of May except 1st May and Sundays.

Nice to see someone doing something legal.

Maybe you want to have a word with our locals. They only burn on Bank holidays and Sundays. They say the Town hall is shut so what can "they" do. Next day there is no evidence.
