Title: It pays to shop around Post by Bigyin on Sep 10th, 2009 at 3:22pm
I know the cost of hardware and supplies here versus UK has been discussed before. However, just as an additional bit of info:- I needed a 50m roll of 60cm wide wire netting (chicken wire, hexagonal pattern) to keep the rabbits off my roses and veggies. I went in Cifec at the top end of Amposta and was quoted €129 (but discounted to €109). I thought that over €2/metre was a bit steep so I left it. I looked on the net for UK prices which came out at about £47.
Tried in Hierez today but they don't stock it. The lad behind the counter gave me name and directions to a Ferreteria. Nice chap who apparently has been running the business with his mate for over 40 years. Anyway, upshot was same product (same manufacturer) for €57 (about 50 quid). I was so chuffed, I bought another couple of items while I was there. In case you don't know where I mean, the name is Ferreteria Adell. Directions:- (on foot, bit more complex by car because of one way system)..... Rambla de Catalunya (from Corona Hotel roundabout) past Lidl on your left. One and a half blocks further down on the right opposite Carrer d'Alacant. Very small old fashioned shop, very helpful guy (Gonzalvo and his older buddy Gauxachs). For what it's worth, Longdrop |

I've had no luck with the traps. Tried lettuce and carrot. Laid a trail up to the traps and a juicy piece inside. Little gits eat the trail and stop short of entering. They seem to be declining in numbers a bit and slowing down now (mixi time). I reckon a shotgun or airgun is the answer. Anyone got anything for sale ? (anyone trying to flog a second hand MLRS or similar need not respond). Just wondering if I'd have just posted that I'd found a source of wire netting at a decent price (without mentioning "wabbits") if anyone would have said "that's useful, thanks" ? :o
