I am only still researching this really but have just had a telephone interview for a job in Afghanistan ? it is a Salary position for a company thats been operating in this type of work , for a long tme so not a fly by night set up, and for where it is, I don't reckon much for the pay!!!Hours of work are a bit of a question mark as well, could end up working for minimum wage LOL ;D and once your there, hell of a long drive home!! and they charge you for early end of contract ,sounds like Mr O Leary could set up shop there soon ::) Thanks for any advice Phil |

So,you're basically asking a load of part time olive farmers if you should get your head blown off for £5.95/hour.Yeah,go for it.

Hi Phil,
My eldest Son is a Flight Leutenant in the RAF and is on a 5 month tour at the moment, hopefully he will be back end of January. He emails regularly and we get an occasional phone call. He's based on the US camp Bastion site which is pure luxury in comparison to what our own boys and girls get, but it's completely dry, not even a can of beer even for Christmas, it's just another working day for them. Previously he did 5 tours of Iraq without much comment, and N.Ireland for 3 years a long time back. BUT Afghanistan he said is the bowels of the earth, and no normal person would want to go anywhere near the place, if it wasn't for his job demanding he went, he would be back with his Wife to enjoy Christmas. Hey, and he's on a decent salary normally, plus an extra 800 a month away payments. You must be mental, and I think a telephone interview should be the biggest warning signal. Happy Christmas to everyone Jools |

Hi all
Thanks for the advice, yes I know were your all coming from with "mad" :o however there are a whole load of folk in the same position as myself ! I have done quite allot of research into this company and it,s rival company so knew what to expect re-hours, and it is a little bit more than minimum wage ! but still not enough ? a "Merchant Banker" would poss not even get out of bed for my wage. I was also on a course a couple of weeks ago with 2 Royal Engineers, 1 of which had done 9 tours in Afghanistan,so I did get good info from those lads re-condition,s, IEDs etc... and Bastion ain't no Ritz butI suppose depends on sort of luxuries your used to ? ,but yes Dry!!!! As for the Telephone Interview, there all doing it now to cut down on costs/vetting, ones your past this interview then they pay for a flight/medical for your last interview !! plenty seem to go for it ? Things have changed a hell of allot re -getting/applying for a job these days JOB!! LOL ;D At the mo I,m still going to be working for our good old NHS over xmas and new year. All the best for Xmas/ New Year and thanks again for your comments |
