Post by jt42 on May 21st, 2013 at 1:04pm
Just wondering about a trip to miravet and the castle as we have never been, someone mentioned that entrance to the castle is free on tuesdays, also how do we access the ferry/barge that crosses the river how much does it cost and also what times does it run and how do i find it.
Thank you

The castle is good trip out, don't know the opening hours but probably shut for the usual times. They have those walkie talkie type things that tell you all about it.
The Barca or ferry is about 5 minutes the other side of Benifallet (sign posted Pas de Barca on the left ) and is shut the usual times, about €3.00 per car, weather and river permitting, there will be a red pair of underpants flapping in the breeze if it's not working and if you've never done it before and you're first on, may I suggest a possible change of underware.

Your right lan, the castle is shut for the usual lunch. lt is a good place to visit, one of the last Templar Castles still open to the public. To get there, after the ferry, just drive through the village and follow the Castle signs.
Another place worth a visit is the Ceramic Shop, just outside the village on the Mora  road on the left.
Happy sailing!

The trip to Miravet is well worth it. The views from the castle are fantastic and the ferry crossing is an experience never forgotten. It's a bit nerve wracking the first couple of times especially if your first on but they've been doing this crossing for decades with cars and are very practiced.
It's always fun seeing the look on visitors faces. You tell them there's a car ferry crossing but when they see it  :o

We have been up to the castle twice, but it's been closed both times!
Sign showed afternoon opening times of 4pm.
But we waited along with other people until 4.20 and gave up.
The barca is fun, and saves a lot of journey time.
We tell our friends and family that we are taking them on a boat trip! then it's a surprise for them.
If you go into the square in Miravet they have some interesting stainless information plaques there, in English too.
Pottery is good, always find something to buy there, and the family speak English.
If you want a good restaurant in Miravet try Molidexim.
Starts serving food from 1.30, need to reserve a table during Summer.

If you want a longer trip then after tha castle leave Miravet and head for Pinell de Brai. There you will find the 'Catedral de vi' - wine cathedral. An enormous building with a colourful history. There are guided tours and an information video in various languages.

It closed down a few years ago as a winery and the olive mill (which is in one part) also closed but there is currently a (would you believe it) Welshman making wine there in a small part.

Well worth a visit - and if you fancy a meal in Pinell there is a great restaurant (brasserie) called Can Lluís.

As far as I know, the ferry is unique in using the hulls as aerofoils (aquafoils ?) in the river current.

Thanks all,
Looked forward to the trip to the castle but what a disappointment ( Spanish builders ) still wasn't finished and no duty free on the ferry!!!!
Yours a heavily depressed Bulldog.
