Can anyone recommend a monitored security company for us up on Coll de L'Alba? Don't know if they will do it, but we have a great solar system and decent track. And the peace of mind while away from the house would be nice.
Ta ever so |

As a Coll d' Alba resident, burglary victim... whose neighbours had exactly this.. it is not much use...
The Romanian gang who were running riot on all the roads on this hill are no longer active, but it is the "rich area" and close to town so always a big risk. What the thieves do is pry open a window or door, waggle something inside to set off your alarm and call your expensive monitoring team, move off to the bush to watch them arrive, probably call it as a false alarm and leave... Then they burgle you. If you have wrecker bars, they usually get a vehicle [inc yours if around] and rip the bars off, so blocking the driven access can be most effective, especially as they like to drive off with yer booty.. Recently, some of them, due to heat from the fuzz, have taken to stashing the loot in a nearby place their women can "find" it soon after, theft by finding in open campo is a Mickey Mouse crime compared to burglary, so they separate the two crimes.. So, if burgled, look at your place, access with a thief's eye and check the area.. Make friends with all your neighbours, get a safe, chain up power tools, fit "trail/deer cameras" around the place, get proper wrecker bars fitted, expect the Spanish |

p.s. stormy nights, festes and full moons are by far the most dangerous times, imo 90% of the recce's and robberies are on one or more of these.
They do not like dogs, and I would guess, 140dB alarms that are so loud you cannot stand to be in the building. I do not know the legality of the alarms that spew out smoke [to stop ram raiders] but would think they could be very effective.. |

At the risk of being called pedantic Eddie, it's reja, not wrecker. Ooooh it winds me up so it does..... ;)

Wow, sailing pretty close to the wind there Nobrot.. Any further infractions and it will be straight off to Pedant's corner for you my lad.
As I was addressing the English community I tried to keep it all very simple ... ;) Wrecker is memorable and phonetically close enough, but to save your blood pressure any further stress, Reja it is from now on. :) |

I am very nervous as to what I will find on my return in October :'( if they have done me over again "not that there is much left" I might have to call it a day !!!!!!!! were they defiantly Romanians doing all the robberies in the area ?
oh and thanks for the info on the window bars, I have made a dozen bars at work to take with me, to build in to windows and door splaid out into a fish tails ,then weld on frame bars later ,weighing in at whooping 7 kg in my hold bag ;D |

Philmountains, it was a Romanian gang, not Roma, doing a large % of the robberies on the Coll d'Alba around 2 years ago. But, it is not exclusively them at it, locals, gypsies, English, Moroccans, Sub Saharan Africans all feature...
You are only going to escape the full force of the law shooting robbers if you can show you fired warning shots in the air, the ground between you, then finally to save life and limb, the burglar. In the heat of the moment, the actual order might be variable, just remember to get your story nailed down right. The Mossos and Locales are really very supportive if you give them a good beating though, especially inside a fenced piece of land or house. They will do almost anything to help you out and are not in the least bit picky about any tricky details or evidence, unlike the UK, they are 100% on our side. |

Spanish air rifle law allows for (I think) 18 ft lbs versus the 12 of UK law. A 22 or 25 air gun pellet in the head at 30 metres will kill. You can buy a gun over the counter and then you should (hm?) register it with the town hall and pay a license fee of some 20 euros a year (what? really? yup!) Pistols are similarly far more powerful but these are Co2 cartridge guns which are quite expensive. Ordinary combat guns are pretty ineffective but look the part. A nice 357 magnum Dirty Harry would certainly frighten me even if it wouldn't kill a mouse.

Yeh I thought that was air rifle in the photo ;D thing is with air rifles is they don't make a bang.
when I confronted a would be thief last Feb in the night, I was packing a long pick axe shaft" just as a walking aid" he definatly noticed it, and after a few words left the on a moped up the track >:( |
