HI can anyone tell me whats needed to put a boat on the Ebro, do you need to register and insurance it will the same be needed to put the same boat on the sea. I am thinking of an inflatable rib with outboard motor (see items wanted) thanks

Hi, As far as I know you just launch and use your boat?? I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong but this is what I've been doing for the last couple of years with an 8ft rib & small outboard and no ones ever said anything

PS if your still after a rib let me know I may sell mine as i want to bring over a fibreglass boat ;-)

If you use a 'BOAT'it has to be insured and registered with a CHE number painted on the hull. if you get caught without one say goodbye to your boat. It will be confiscated there and then. if it's over 4 meters you need a navigation licence.

If its got an engine, make sure it's a four stroke - 2 strokes are banned.
Canoes can just launch ( I believe) without problems. Ribs are classed as boats I think.

This is applicable to the Ebro upstream of Tortosa. To use a boat on the sea and downstream of Tortosa you need a maritime registration number (not a che number) and you must have a navigation licence. YHA 'qualifications' (?) are not recognised by the authorities here only government issued licences.

Ooops! I had better look into this a bit further then before i go bringing a fibreglass boat over!! Looks like i may be bringing a canoe instead ;-)

As I understand it, if your boat is not Spanish registered then you are allowed to use an international license and I can test and issue these. This is definitely the case on the sea and as far as I know it is the same on the river.

And NO Malcolm, you can't on the river. further, if you boat is under 4 meters long you don't need a licence at all.

Not sure what a YHA qualification is?? RYA and IYT qualifications have been agreed as international qualifications although I accept that locals choose to ignore this. One thing is you will be a lot better off if caught with one of these rather than nothing at all!!

Also just to clarify, as I understand it, yes you do not need a license if the boat is under 4 metres as long as the engine power is less than 13hp.
