I get 35 mpg at a constant 70 mph in my diesel truck.  I go on dfds ferry dieppe / newhaven and I  come from Hertfordshire.
I stop at Issoire, nice hotel (campanile) including breakfast, €45. I also take a cool box full of food and a flask of coffee.
