Title: Joint of meat in hand luggage Post by Sherlock on Mar 14th, 2016 at 11:35pm
Has anyone brought a joint back from England in their hand luggage? Fancy a decent joint of lamb for Easter but can't get an answer back from Easyjet as to whether it's allowed ...

A friend often bought back ham joints, legs of lamb and sausages from the U.K. But this was two years ago.
She travelled with Ryanair, from Stansted, with hand luggage only. She was asked questions sometimes, but was always allowed to bring the meats through. |

There should be no problem. I've done it in both directions. You can get small frozen legs of New Zealand lamb in the supermarkets here and Bon Area do whole local legs - again on the small side - but they are quite pricey.

Here are the rules from/into Germany. The refer to the EU so it will apply from the UK into Spain. There are a few links for you to explore.
http://www.iatatravelcentre.com/DE-Germany-customs-currency-airport-tax-regulations-details.htm Airline or checked or cabin luggage makes no difference, what matters is where you are coming from. According to UK customs regulations, you are allowed to bring up to 10 kg of meat, fish or dairy products from any country within the EU. From countries outside the EU bringing food is generally not allowed. http://gouk.about.com/od/tripplanning/ss/customsexcise.htm :D :D :D :D ![]() |

Many thanks for the info. I find it surprising that the regs only permit 1kg of meat versus 30kg of poultry:
'Fresh meat: the import of fresh meat and meat products is allowed, provided import is not for commercial purposes, up to a quantity of 1 kg.; game and poultry up to 30 kgs.' |
