Title: best method of heating water for a shower Post by dwt111 on Oct 15th, 2016 at 9:36am
Hi,
I am soon renovating a town house in Tortosa, one of the first internal jobs is to form a bathroom. Not yet having had a chance to trawl hardware suppliers. I am wondering if the type of electric shower commonly used in the U.K is freely available, or would it be the larger water cylinder type ? Thanks for any advice. David |

I would find out what electric supply the house has before making any decisions (though cylinders are most common here I think). If you need to upgrade the supply to take large consumption it can be an expensive exercise in itself. Suppliers charge more as your potential increases regardless of consumption so it is the gift that keeps taking.

The water cylinders are the best route to go down, more economical, and they are well insulated these days. I shut mine off at night and the water is still okay to shower the next day.
There is a company called Matelfon they are based in Deltebre but they cover Tortosa also. One of the owners is called Carlos and he has good English. They cover plumbing electrics air con and heating. I have used them several times and have found them very good value and quality. Tel 977 482 174 www.matelfon.com Ctra. Canal, palcel-la 41. 43580 Deltebre- La Cava I am not on commission and have no links, but I think firms that provde a good service should be known about. Before I knew of them I used a local electrical company to renew a mains panel and paid 400€. My neighbour had the same job done with Matelfon at half the price. That's how I learned of them. I hope it's of some use to you. |

Forget electric showers here. Generally they are rated at 10Kw and a typical house power supply here is 5.75Kw. All houses in the UK get a 12Kw supply as standard but here you contract what you want, at a price!
Where your house is I very much doubt you would get anything over 5.75Kw Also, as you are doing a serious renovation, the architect is almost certainly going to require a solar hot water installation to be installed before the house obtains its 'cedula de habitabilidad' (this is now part of the building regulations here) and all of these come with a stored water system.
