There is nothing like trying to get on with the locals,is there?
I usually just politely ask them to go somewhere else and up to now they have. Mind you I am 6ft 4 16 stone with a broken nose and assorted scars, so perhaps that helps. But its surprising how far a 'por favor' with a smile goes.

Last year we stopped at a small river for a picnic, with the children.
I walked off down the barranc while they eat, near to the car.
As the barranc was quite deep I looked up at the small road bridge above and noticed a small van drop one of it's occupants off.
Bit odd I thought as we where miles from anywhere.
So I watched him, and he made his way along the barranc, to come out behind our car.
By the time I climbed up out of the barranc the other two males where shunting there old van back and forwards across the narrow track exit.
Luckily for us, as we threw the picnic gear into the boot, a hunter suddenly appeared from out of the bushes , complete with twelve bore and dog !
The three Moroccans looked a bit surprised and we drove away rapidly.
It has made us much more aware when stopping in remote areas.

Nen
It was nobrot who said i was ugly, not that you were.
I am far too nice a person to ever insult anyone on an open forum, I do it to their face usually after a couple of bottles of wine.
(So which bar is it??? ;)) and shall I bring my gun ;D
Salut

On Sunday in Gandesa (maybe the rest of Catalunya ??) they had a ceremony at the church blessing all the animals, in the background you could hear the hunters blowing the poor little buggers to bits. Bloody hypercrits, mind you half of them couldnt hit a barn door at ten yards

one lovely mornig last autumn, we couldn't leave our Casita because of the endless shooting around - that day we counted 23 hunters on our ground until sunset - this ist the happy life in El Perelló; tolkin to neighbours (catalans) about this habit they cannot understand what we mean - another day I started filming them with a good result - I'm shure, you only have troubles after calling them to f... off - and for my part I prefere a little quiet at least after the hunt season; in other terms: sh.. happens  8-)

I believe the season officially ends mid March although for a few weekends after that I understand some hunting is still allowed.

I presume this is to allow the mad hatters to bag the last of the march hares, it usually takes them about four shots to down anything anyway, they would be better of with a sawn off shotgun they might at least hit somethng then!!

Perhaps they are not hunting, perhaps it is self defense.

I have not  been bothered by hunters on my finca for 4 years now. I was always polite to them never demanded they leave my land etc but they just seem to have decided to stay away...perhaps it is my pack of six dogs(2of them Rottweilers) and the five beehives. If this is the cure then I recommend this method to everyone! ;)

Hi Bruixot

The dogs probably put off burglars as well, so its a toss up between house and contents insurance fees and the cost of feeding six huge hounds over a year!! Hum I wonder which works out cheaper!!

Is it me or do these burglaries only happen to ex pats, has anyone heard of the Catalans being burgled? Just a thought

Hi folks:  The guys that paid us a visit neither knew nor cared if we were from this planet or the moon....they also helped themselves from our neighbours caravans and chalets, (they live in Barcelona), and our neighbours casita, which belongs to a local couple. We were the only English "done" that night...out of 6 break ins.  they were of Eastern European origin apparently...(the police caught 2 of them).
Another break in earlier this week in our area, (Tivenys), so be extra vigilant out there.....yeh, maybe the dogs are a good idea.

I know where there is an alsatian going cheep, yes I know its supposed to woof, but you can't have everything, best not tell him outdoors as you know what he is like re dogs, G.O.M.

I have heard of burglaries of locals as well as immigrants. After talking with my friends about my previous post they suggested that the gaggle of 7 geese and the 12 goats might also have an effect on the hunters!  :)

Ahhh Geese now you are talking, I remember how territorial they are and nothing is more intimidating than a goose they don't seem to fear anything, except for an Axe and a chopping block  ;D

Hmm don't know about not afraid of anything. Mine are a nervy bunch but they do make a lot of noise and come threatening and hissing at anything unusual. And as for insurance...well I haven't got around to getting any for the finca for the last four years so I guess that would probably offset the cost of feeding the hounds.

Am I looking in wrong place, or have the last four posts been deleted, including Tony's ?
Cannot see why an advert for a dog would cause anyone to be offended.
