Title: Stolen computer has been located!
Post by Chris on Aug 15th, 2010 at 12:56pm
My laptops been located in Chisinau, Moldova, which is in between Rumania and Russia.
The lap top had a tracker installed by Paul at http://www.ebrovalleycomputers.eu/stolen.html

We have advised the police but i can't ever see us ever getting it back.
Strangely enough, the guy who was using it was on skype to a female in Tortosa!( i even know her address, and we even have pictures of them ) Small world eh?
It just needs a good copper to tie it all together.
Wonder if the wifes jewellery is in Moldova or Tortosa?

Moldova!??
Boggles the mind. I hope someone gets brought to justice for all this but I am afraid my faith in the justice system and the police has not been high for almost two decades.
Good luck with everything and I seriously hope you don't get burgled again.

Unbelievable! Wonder what nationality the woman in Tortosa is?
Perhaps we should all have trackers fitted on our computers. Interesting!
Hope the police take notice and do something to catch them soon.

Looks like another organised gang shipping stuff out by the lorryload to eastern europe. Any chance of plod tracking the Tortosa IP address?

We have her actual street address and apartment number and we have given this to the police, but i can't go knocking on her door demanding information can i? and so we have to wait and see if the police question her. But really, unless she is already known to them as a thief or a fence, all they can ask is her is about her link to the guy in Moldova who just happens to be using a stolen laptop. It may just be an innocent skype call.(although i doubt that).
But if the police do nothing, we will think of something i am sure. A bit tricky really.

Paul loaded the programme onto my new one after the last theft.I doubt if I'll ever see my old one again, unless it is still local but if the theives knew that there is a good chance of every stolen computor from this area was fitted with this tracker then surely it is a bloody good deterant.

Hello Chris
we just got a call from the Tortosa Mossos asking us to see them and try to identify retrieved stolen goods and some photos.

I was wondering if you might have had the same?

Hi Nobrot,

I think if they know about tracking software they just would wipe the harddrive before connect the thing to the internet  :( This kind of security is only working if the thieves don't know what they are doing  ::)

No, no call from the police, but then again, our stuff is already far away! But its good that someone has been caught and stolen goods are being returned.
Re wiping the hard drive,  yes this would work, as would fitting a new hard drive, but they do not know a tracker has been installed, and they may be put off by the cost of a hard drive or having the knowledge of wiping the original.
As Nobrot says, they are thick and stupid,(and parentless) but are apparently very good at thieving.

I was looking for our cool bag rucksack the other day,(green and white with Heiniken logos) but bugger me they stole that too! Must have come without the means to carry items away with so used that.

Title: put a tracker on to your laptop

Best bit of kit around and FREE.  Puts a tracker and more onto your machine and better than the competition. Installation is a bit complicated - you need to register to get a reference number particular to your machine first.   You also need your MAC address so Google if you're not sure what or where that is.  Read all the blurb before going ahead and don't forget, it's your choice;I didn't guarantee anything.  Also don't forget to password protect your logon to Windows or whatever you're using (if you're using Linux then you know all this anyway).
