Title: Peeling onions without tears
Post by Nigel on Dec 28th, 2010 at 8:04pm
Peeling and slicing onions always makes my eyes run and hurt like hell.  I've read ov various techniques to prevent this; peel them under water - but how do you then dice or slice?, put them in the fridge so they are cold, open the window etc.

I have, however, found the perfect cure! So simple, swimming goggles - ok, you look a bit odd and your other half might curl up laughing but it works (for me anyway). I can (and have) peel, slice, dice etc. loads of onions with absolutely no ill effects.

Try it for yourself or maybe you have some other method thet is worth trying....

If you sniff several lines of white pepper 3 hours before peeling onions then you will have no tears left to cry.
Actually I was taught to always breathe in through my mouth and out through my nose and I have never had a problem, just keep your hands away from your face.
