Title: Eurona Slow.....
Post by PlanesPete on Dec 21st, 2011 at 10:21pm
Anybody else finding that Eurona slows down to useless in the evenings? We get great bandwidth during the day and can download iPlayer and use voip & Skype happily. After about 5pm it goes downhill rapidly until simple webpages take an age to load and everything else is out of the question. I don't know if it is just too many people using a finite resource or whether atmospheric conditions mess up the radio link (not on satellite). Any opinions?

Sounds about right here in Camarles - apparently more bandwidth is forthcoming which may help.
My kids are pulling their hair out with the amount of packet loss in the evenings.

After 7pm Skype is a lottery - hope it gets fixed soon.

Eurona are well aware of the problems.
There is a project underway at the moment (well actually 3) for the area.

  • One project is to increase the available bandwidth for the area - this was inaugurated 6 months ago as it takes that long to obtain an operating licence from the relevant government departments (well this is Spain!).
  • Another project is a move of the transmitter to another position on the tower and away from other transmitters that are causing big interference problems - this should have been done this week but due to the winds it was impossible. It has been re-scheduled for next week. At the same time a new version of the equipment is being installed.
  • The third project is to install a totally different system to run alongside the existing system. This will improve coverage to some of the more distant users and to anyone who is suffering with interference can be migrated to the new system - hopefully resolving the problems they are having.
The new system should be installed by the beginning of January.

Sorry about the problems but they are being resolved.  I will post on here when the updates have been implemented.

It might be a good idea to have a relay on the Caro side of the river, then maybe I could get it :)

Thanks for that Nigel.

It's hard enough getting the kids to do their homework as it is and it has been frustrating for them to attempt to upload their work in the evenings recently.
