Title: Re: Hermitage Tortosa

We went up there today for the first time since it re-opened and had one of the best Menu del Dias that we have had since coming across 9 years ago.  Starters were either Ensalada or Russian Salad.  We chose the Russian Salad which was with Tuna and obviously home made by the cut of the veg.  It was presented beautifully in small dishes rather than on the usual plate.  Second course was Gazpacho, Spaghetti Carbonara or some form of lentils.  My wife had the Gazpacho, again beautiflully presented with a side garnish of chopped tomato, cucumber, pimento etc and another of little breadstick type things.  I had the Spaghetti which was in a very tasty sauce with plenty of ham. Main Course was either sepia, chicken pinxos or lomo.  I chose the sepia which I expected to be the usual 'a la planxa' - wrong, it had been cut into dice and cooked like a stew with potatoes and was beautifully tender.  My wife chose the lomo which looked good (she said that it melted in the mouth) and was served with some sort of potato wedge which had obviously been cooked in the oven rather than deep-fried.  Speaking with the chef afterwards he told us that the lomo had been marinated for a day in oil and spices.  There was a selection of desserts to follow of which I cannot remember them all but my wife had a home-made cheesecake and I had a beautifully light chocolate mousse, again home-made.  With drinks and coffee the total bill was 20€.  Apparently the chef was attempting to cook like his mother did and boy did it work with us.  We wished them all the best with their venture and will certainly be returning and taking friends.
