This doesn't upset me in the slightest, but you seriously cannot expect anyone to respect an opinion that is based on lies, supposition and scaremongering. Describing immigrants as 'invaders' that need to be got rid of is exactly the kind of language that has set off so much racist abuse against Polish children, for instance, in the UK, handing them cards saying they would be deported for heaven's sake. There was a German woman on LBC a few days ago who was weeping with fear because her neighbours had told her that she had been 'voted out' and she had two weeks to leave, they had put dog excrement through her door. She is in her seventies and has lived in the UK for 48 years with her British husband who had recently died. Personally I think that people who invoke the war dead to put their opinion across are disgusting too. My grandparents took in refugees during ww2, and they are who I learned my compassion from. I am so ashamed to be British these days. I am remaining here and European. |
