Title: Woodworm treatment advice
Post by mariannaanddaniel on May 30th, 2017 at 9:12am
Hi there,

Can anyone recommend a good product to use in treating woodworm which is effective but not too expensive, any diy mixes? Will have a large area to treat ( 20+ large beams which are plastered over at the moment but we are opening them all out for treatment) in a 100y.o town house. I have been buying a 2.5 litres woodworm treatment (liquid with permetrina) from 'Colors' painting shop but it doesn't go very far at 25 euros... I have heard of using diesel oil as a cheaper alternative for treatment, has anyone used this effectively?
Any advice on the matter is much appreciated- thanks!

Hi,
This may not be that helpful but I got some treatment from a firm in Scotland a few years ago so can't remember details but they sold it on ebay.
It came in a plastic disolvabe tube and you mixed it with water.
I suited up and face mask etc and spray it with a presurised garden spray.
I am sure it was the same chemical that you mention but of course much cheaper and they posted it to here no problem.
Treated the Vegas after with linseed oil that was about 30€ 5 liters. Seemed to do the job ok now 8 years .
Good luck
Steve

We used diesel with great effect. We have bare wood pine beams which are well perforated with holes and we could see quire a few active ones with fresh sawdust appearing. By using an old kitchen spray bottle and a piece of cardboard as a shield, the job was done in no time. There were a few more active ones 3 years later and we re-sprayed. That second treatment was 5 years ago and no more signs of activity.
I would certainly treat again the same way if needed. The smell clears quickly and doesn't leave any noticeable colouring even with the red diesel we used.
