What status is required to vote in Spanish/Catalan elections ?

The rules are:
For local elections and european elections you can vote if you are empadronated.
For all other elections (regional/national) you are not eligible to vote.

It is, in my opinión, completely unfair. For example there are over 1 million registered foreigners in Catalunya who are legally here and pay their taxes. This accounts for 15% of the population. We have no right to vote in the regional or national elections.

From my understanding it is due to European rules, not Spanish.

Nigel, I agree it is unfair that we are unable to vote.

I recall a lot of discussion on the forum about voting in the UK referendum - You can't ( shouldn't be allowed to ) have it both ways folks.

I agree, if you are eligible to vote in the uk, why should you also be eligible to affect the Catalan/Spanish government. You can’t have it both ways :)

Voting in the Brexit, only applied to a few people living here in Spain. Not allowed to vote any other time.
Some didn’t receive ballot papers in time for voting in Brexit anyway.
