What dishwasher to buy with solar and where?

Can anyone recommend a mechanical dishwasher that will work with a solar/generator system, I am told that an electronic one does not work.  If purchased the machine would be connected direct to the genny.

Where can I buy one, I have tried Hiper Europa

There is a Lynx with a rotary dial in Sebeco, is this the type I would need?  To ensure that I get the correct sort, do I just look for a model with a rotary dial?

If anyone can help with this I would be grateful, please keep any funny remarks to yourself tho, my husband knows them all!!!!  Grin

It depends on the type of Solar you have.  There are 2 types, the cheaper 'modified sine wave' and more expensive 'pure sine wave' types.  A number of electrical items aren't too happy working with the cheaper type as the waveform of the output has harmonics that upset or destroy their sensitive electronic bits.  The more expensive type is suitable for anything as it is the same as what would be supplied from the electric companies.

That said, the problem will be that dishwashers run heating elements to heat the water and to dry the washing up.  This will suck the power from your batteries in no time.

You can lessen the load on the batteries by rigging up a pre heated water feed. As all machines only have a cold feed you could plumb in hot and cold through a temperature controlled mixer tap (like on a shower) so water into the machine is already at the desired temperature (40 or 60 degrees).  The water would be heated by whatever you have (gas/solar hot water) so the dishwasher wouldn't need to heat it up.  The only heating would then be at the end during the drying cycle.

Thank you for your reply Nigel

Hopefully if anyone can suggest a model that will work on a direct feed to the genny, then it will not need to go through the inverter or batteries.

Once again many thanks

Why do you think you would need a specific model?? Surely if you were to run your unit from your genset any dishwasher will do the trick.....or do I misunderstand?? Possibly not relevant but our Zanussi w-machine will not work if the generator is running, but will work straight from the batteries and inverter. Laundry gremlins maybe

Thanks Farway

We are just making sure we dont buy something and then find it doesn't work..... I have seen this happen with electronic washing machines etc.

I have been advised to find a mechanical dishwasher.  To that end I have been into several shops, when I have asked for a mechancal model,  I get a shrug from the assistants.  I had hoped that if others in the area have come up against this problem they would be able to give me good advice.

cheers Grace
