UK car dumped in Spanish village

Does anyone know who to call in the UK about a British car which has quite obviously been dumped in a village here.

Because it's on UK plates, people are asking me if I know who it belongs to, and can I contact the UK Police.

It's a "seen better days" blue Mitsubishi 4x4, obviously not MOT'd, taxed or insured, why cant people dump stuff on their own doorstep instead of on other people's?

Hi Jools. I really think you are on a hiding to nothing by trying to contact UK Police. This is a Spanish Police matter as the car has been dumped in Spain. Neither is it your responsibility to deal with it because you are English any more than it would be the responsibility of  a Catalan/Spanish person to report a dumped car on Spanish plates. The car may actually have been stolen, if so perhaps the Police have a record of this? Whatever the case someone in authority has responsibility to remove the car as it is not only an eye sore but potentially dangerous to be left as it is.

Hi Jools
I have recently spoken to a UK policeman pal on exactly the same subject as you refer to. Appears the UK police jurisdiction on UK registered vehicles out the country is non-existent.  They will however deal with any UK registered vehicles which are not complying fully with UK vehicle legislation when they re-enter the country.  His advice was to contact the local police if a UK registered vehicle was deemed to be causing problems.  I remember as long as 10 years ago that the authorities here were towing away dumped UK vehicles (this was Tortosa Council towing a dumped UK registered vehicle left in Bitem). I suggest the villagers contact their council first to start the ball rolling.

Shows bad against us Brits but they are only following the Spanish example aren't they (which doesn't mean that I condone it) ?  There are 3 Spanish cars dumped on a mountain traqck near us !!
Also, when we first moved out here there was a  UK car dumped in the dry canal.  It eventually got removed, but by whom I don't know.

Thanks guys,

Yes your right, it does look bad against the Brits, but as usual the minority spoil it for the rest.

It would be bloody good though if the owner got a letter through his/her door in the UK with the bill for removing it.

Why should others foot the bill.

Yes, how terrible of us Brits to turn up in Spain and lead all these poor innocents astray with our terrible rubbish dumping habits, whatever next ?

Only last week I saw several Spanish vehicles also casually dumped, something that has never ever happened before here in Spain. Clearly we Brits are totally at fault for our malign influence leading the poor innocent locals astray.

Maybe we could ask the Police or Army to simply shoot any British people seen in cars over 3 years old as a precautionary measure, it could save us a hell of a lot of hand wringing in the future.

From what I have read, I would tend to think it's been stolen and the owner may not even know, becuase they might not even be in the Country at the moment?. Lets face it, we have all at some time or other gone back to the U.K. leaving our homes/Fincas & posessions as we would like to find them when we got back HA!!!!!!
A similar thing recently happened to me...a car of mine was stolen while I was back in the U.K......,butchered,vandalised and dumped somewhere. It was only by word of mouth that someone told a friend of ours where it was, and he very kindly towed what was left of the car back to our property. It could quite easily have remained dumped for several months until I returned.

Normally if people want to dump something, they will find somewhere fairly remote......(like deserted mountain tracks etc as previously mentioned in this posting).....NOT in the middle of a village?.
My guess it has been stolen by someone purely to get from A to B (I.E your village), then once it's purpose has been served they have just left it?.
A fairly simple tell tale sign would be to see how intact the door locks and ignition barrel are?
If dumped by the ligitimate owner, THEY would have had the keys, therefore there is likely to be very little/no damage to those areas. On the other hand, if it IS stolen....,the door locks/windows and ignition are likely to be well and truly.....got at!!!!.

Would it be a good idea to actually post the registration number on this site.
That would enable anyone who is not in Spain at the moment to recognise their car as being stolen and then contact someone to secure their car again.
Or the owners neighbours to either inform them of it being stolen.
Or to shame the person who has dumped it.
If I was to dump a car (which I wouldn't) then I would have the sense to remove the number plates.

At least they just left the car, (unlike the one dumped on the spare ground at the cross roads,at the top of the hill just outside Aldover, heading towards  Els Reguers), they torched it as well, leading to a trip out for the local Bombers, at what cost?

Well at least as it was known to the Guardia and the Bombers, so the burnt out wreck was eventually removed.

May be that is your possible solution, set fire to it and it may get removed.

Wouldn't last long in England though would it, some 14 year olds would probably joy ride in it till the juice ran out.
Not so bad in Spain really is it!

Come on chaps, give the poor overstretched authorities a break! They are far too busy calling slovernly British into the adjuntament to tell them they are hanging up their rubbish by their own front door TOO EARLY IN THE DAY! and the smell ( sorry, no fish heads in my house) is upsetting the neighbours. ( I wondered who that was opening my rubbish to see if they could find a smell to complain about.)
So, you see, it is all my fault because the Police are now permanently on guard outside my house to check what time I put my rubbish out. Phew! I have just sneaked out under cover of darkness to put my organic waste out. One of the ferral cats next door was peeing and * rapping near my front door, but hey I love the smell of Channel no. 1 and 2 , so why complain. A rapping cat is cool too!
Of course I could just do what some do and deposit it at the foot of the recycling bins at the back of the Consel Comarcal and let the stray cats and dogs eat it. Or perhaps I could throw it on the disused wasteground near my friends house where people chuck their used nappies. Hmmm, maybe I will scatter all my plastics across the fincas' next to the municipal dump, that seems to be the thing here, rather than spend all my time washing out plastic bottles and storing them ready for the weekly collection!
You get my drift?

Rapping Cats, now there is a novelty, I've heard a rubber band, I even heard of a house fly, but I be dog gone if I see a Elephant fly. I've heard of a Cat Nap, but never a cat rap, unless they have changed the trend for those ladies stoles from fox to cat

The only rapping cats I've seen is on National Lampoons Christmas Vacation where Aunty wraps her cat up every year as a Christmas present, meeeeoooow

Anyway what was that to do with dumped cars?

BLIMEY!

While I've been laid up in bed with this horrible flu virus, this thread has attracted a lot of interest......

Here's the registration JUST IN CASE  it's been stolen, I'd be ashamed to admit ownership if it was mine, but here goes. Looks in tact except for headlights missing.

Hi Nuts,
Yep, that is exactly what the cats are doing in my street, although I reckon it is more break dancing than rapping, don't you reckon?
In fact I'm going to start a new keep fit rage by purchasing one of those lazer pens and trying it out at the next festa, that could be interesting!
PS. I went out this morning and there was a great pile of fish bones in the street. I'm going to call the head of fisheries and foods to complain about illegally caught red herrings being dumped and my street. Angry
