criminal records checks

Hi. Has anyone had experience of applying for a criminal records check on return to the UK from Spain? ( Certificado de antecedentes penales) or something to that effect. I need it because I'm planning to work with children. I have been quoted £120  by a company who will apply for it on my behalf but they say it could take 3 months or more. I'm wondering whether this is something I could do myself if I am over in Spain or should I just cough up the cash to this company and hope they process it quickly!!!
Thanks.

Do you want a UK check or Spanish ? The UK one takes about 3 weeks and costs £20 at last count.
you can find all the info here : http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/typesofdis.htm  Sorry don't know about the Spanish system.

Thanks Munk, It's a Spanish check that I need. The British one is being paid for by the company I want to work for but I have been quoted £120 for the Spanish one and told it could take 3 months!!! If anyone is planning on returning to the UK at some point in the future bear this in mind. There are many jobs that require CRB checks including any job working with children or vulnerable adults, post office, security work and many more. I could probably have organised it before I left but failed to consider it, so anyone returning to UK now or later, make sure you look into it before you leave as it could save you a lot of time and money.

I had to get the same document a few months ago and actually managed to do it. I had someone visit the spanish embassey in manchester (as I was in the uk at the moment), they sent the info wherever it needed to go and had someone collect it for me in barcelona a few weeks later.

visit

all the info is there and will cost the grand total of 5 euro or so.

WinkGood luck

Thanks farway,
That is really helpful, I had a quick look at the site and it looks a bit complicated but it is much cheaper than going through the foreign and commonwealth office in London, who charge £123!, so I will persevere and have another look tomorrow.
