Uses for Carobs

Has anyone actually used their carobs for anything other than trying to obtain the best price for them?
To date I've only ever sold mine (I don't have many trees and only end up with about 200Kg or so) so is it worth the time for around 40 euros?

What alternatives are there for using them? I searched on Google and found an interesting article here:
http://www.motherearthnews.com/Nature-Community/1980-09-01/Carob-The-Natural-Swe...

This tells you how to prepare them for use. There are numerous recipes on the internet too.

Anyone using them? I'm going to give it a try as carob flour in the shops costs around 5 euros a kilo, and if it does work as a chocolate substitute then I'll be in heaven!

I hope you're not too disappointed with your 'chocolate'. I have bought 'carob coated' bars in  a health shop and they were pretty disgusting! If it tasted as good as chocolate then it would probably be on sale everywhere instead of being bought by people who think for some reason adding a load of fat and sugar to carob powder is somehow healthier than doing the same thing to cocoa powder, from a cocoa bean!!!!
Oh well. worth a try I suppose, let us know how you get on!!

It will be interesting to taste the results.  I did dip my wet finger in a bag of Carob flour in a shop in Barcelona and it tasted delicious, very like real chocolate. We'll see how it turns out!

I had some last year straight off the tree. Sweet with the texture of rope, sort of chocolate with a hint of horse manure, slightly cheeky on the nose without being too impertinent.
Can't ever see it replacing a creme egg somehow.

£16.50/kilo !!!!  You talk about co-operatives.  Is there not a case for getting hold of a huge truck and journeying North ?
