Electric Gates

We have electric gates fitted on our property and they have worked well for five years.  Yesterday,  they started opening and shutting all by themselves. I have had to disconnect the main supply to stop them.  Any body any ideas before I contact Latje to look and them (and no doubt a huge bill)
Help !

Had any electric storms nearby recently?

Could have taken out the electronics in a surge!!

Yes we did but it worked fine afterwards. Tried disconnecting the remote bit but it still seems to have a mind of its own. Perhaps its a ghost !!

I'm not an expert but I presume the gate system has sensors that detect the position of the gate.  Have you checked that these are not obstructed by weeds or whatever or need cleaning.

Yes thanks, there are two markers on the gate that activate a switch but thats not the problem.  It seems like the gate keeps getting an open or close signal constantly.  I suspect its the electronic controller thats gone but hoping there might be a cheaper fix.  Thanks for your suggestions.

It was to do with the switch that was connected to the gate stop. It was faulty and was intermittently giving false signals.
