Regulations when towing a trailer

I am trying to find out what the legal situation is with towing a trailer (by a Spanish plated car). I have been told that up to 400kg requires nothing, 400kg - 750 kg requires informing my insurance co. and anything over 750kg also requires an ITV for the trailer. I have also read on a web site I thought was authoritative that all trailers require and ITV but if over 750kg, then they must be matriculated on their own.
Can someone please tell me what the real situation is (assuming there is a definitive answer)?
Thanks

Maybe have a look at Tumbit website,
you should find answers on there, hopefully.
Or, Chris C.I.S. insurance will probably help you.

Thanks Rita
It was the Tumbit site that said all trailers towed by Spanish plated vehicles need their own ITV (& if from the UK would need to get registered here to do that). that seems far tougher than I had been led to believe and I live in hope.
