When to plant

Hi
I have got a few cleared terraces and would like to plant some Olives on Some of them and also a few Orange, Lemon and Pear trees. Can anybody advice on when it is best to plant and also where is a good place to buy them from.
I have sorted the water and is piped to where needed.
As you may have guessed I have no idea about this and is there anything else to take into consideration.
Many Thanks in advance for any replies.
Caz

If the trees are in pots, plant now. You need to be sure that they get adequate water.
Bare rooted trees are best planted in winter, but still need water, especially if a dry period happens

Yup.  If the trees are in containers (either pots or plastic cylinders) you can plant all year round.  Although I haven't used them, many people recommend someone at the Tortosa covered market (maybe outside) and this includes locals as well as ex-pats.  Estorach (directions supplied if required) are also an excellent source for all plants.
Ground preparation is important for good results but there's plenty of info on the net.
Feel free to pm me if you think I can be of any help.  I planted 92 olive trees about 5 years ago and have also planted quite a few fruit trees, both with varying degrees of success and I'm still learning.

Will probably be too hot and too dry to plant anything in four weeks time.
Probably better to wait until Autumn time.

Never plant in late spring.  Keep them sheltered and well watered until late Sept/early October.  Plant a sixpenny tree in a guinea hole.  A big hole full of compost and organic matter.  water weekly for the first rowing season in this case until perhaps late October, then start watering in April.  We are not in UK, so the seasi=ons are upside down with two springs each year. Mucho data on the web, look for Med gardening.

ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD YOU PLANT TREES ON ANY KIND
NOW, ITS A GAMBLE, WAIT UNTIL THE WINTER WHEN THE TREE/PLANT IS DORMANT.
BEST NOVEMBER TO MARCH INC.
IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO PRUNE BACK AFTER PLANTING AND IF BARE ROOTED PRUNE HARD. THIS WILL GIVE GOOD ROOT DEVELOPMENT AND HEALTHY TOP GROWTH.
IN ANY EVENT PREPARE THE GROUND FIRST, YOU KNOW THE OLD SAYING "THE ANSWER LIES IN THE SOIL" AND IT DOES....

Books you may find helpful are:
Gardening in Spain by Marcelle Pitt.
Also a series of books by Clodagh & Dick Handscombe.
They have different books on different types of plants, trees,
vegetables etc.
