Funny number plate...?

In Ampolla yesterday I saw a right hand drive Mercedes C200 CDI. Man, woman, three kids.  So what? 

The number plate was VIP 1. 

Now if you google this you´ll find that this plate was bought  by Roman Abromavich for 285,000 pounds some years back.  The guy didn´t look like Mr A although he had a flash watch and gold rings.  Strange or what?
