Burglaries in Planes, el Perello

There has been a spate of thefts by some 'not too bright' thieves. They are taking scrap, batteries, copper etc while leaving generators and inverters behind. A friends house had all the cabling and copper pipes and taps stripped out. Caused a lot of damage breaking in, 100 times what they will have got for the scrap.
I've moaned on about this before but - GET AN ALARM!
Get one that phones a neighbour, they start at £20 and one that covers everything for about £100.
Rejas and fences are useless. If your house is off the road and looks like it might contain anything pinchable then you will be a target. Please be prepared.

Hi

Where do you get this alarm?

Unfortunately we were burgled and they took a generator and tools, should we inform the police or is it a futile process?

Sorry to hear this.
Best to report it to the police.
Sometimes they catch the culprits and recover items.

Something like this will give you good protection:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/WIRELESS-AUTODIAL-SECURITY-BURGLAR-INTRUDER/dp/B00HEXDKC...
Lots of similar products on eBay.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361244035714
There are solar powered options as well if your property is left with no power.
You need someone local who will respond.
PM me if you need more info...

As Rita says, it's best to inform the police (Mossos d'Esquadra). It helps them track thieves down and sometimes they do recover stolen goods, though it can take months.

Heard today that some friends in Mora had several items stolen there, about three weeks ago.
Also items have been stolen from Flix area.

Always report every thing to the police, we where called to the police store to ID some gear and they where having a hard time prosecuting the thieving git's as most of the gear had not been reported stolen... we recognized some stuff from a  friend and he came stright around with prof he owned the gear and helped put them away for a while.

That's good.
Shame they can't catch more of them.

We were burgled at that time , reported to the Police who were excellent with us, forensics came the following day and fingerprinted, didn't hold much hope however, they nicked a cordless drill  JCB yellow & black... didn't take the charger ???? and my bloody reading glasses ??? We now have cameras up and working and everything else is chained and padlocked

I was burgled a few times, lived in a very rural location unfortunately. However Mossos were great. twice they got some of my stuff back and arrested the guys, mind you they were very dumb as they were very well known locally and lived a few fields across from where we lived. So definitely worth reporting in my books!

The alarm idea is great, I'm going to look at what's available. You may also want to look  at getting a trailcam or two, similar to those used in wildlife programmes. I use one called an LTL Acorn, complete with solar battery charger and it works fine, even captures the wildlife wandering around at night. Best price I've seen is around 75 quid for the camera on ebay with free shipping to Spain.

Visible cameras also have a place in the overall system alongside covert ones as they can prove to be a deterrent.

Some advice for everyone, take photographs of everything you consider valuable or sentimental, take the picture with the front page of a daily newspaper clearly in view, this will show the date that the photograph was taken and make at least three copies, keep two copies in the home, one to give to the police if they are required to attend, one for your insurance company (the picture with the newspaper date shows the insurance company that you had the item on that date) and Shocked give the other copy to a friend to keep in their house, just in case the offenders take your copies!.  Photographs can be kept on a disc and put into an old dvd case, highly unlikely  that offenders will steal English dvd's but make sure you also have a hard copy on file, not on your laptop or computer as this could be stolen.  If you are broken into, do not touch anything, call the police, whilst you are waiting try and take as many photographs as possible showing the point of entry, rooms searched and where the property has been taken from, do not disturbed footprints or marks but try and cover them up if the weather is going to change or it is raining.  One the police have done their bit, it is worth visiting local second hand shops and showing them the photographs to see if anything turns up, also worth noting that as in England no one wants to be caught with stolen goods so second hand shops informed of thefts will be grateful if they know about it before paying out for goods that may well be taken back by the police, they also loose out!.  Please, please, inform everyone on here so that we may all be on guard, anything suspicious is worth passing on.  Here's hoping that none of us needs the police!

Another sad story of a burglary on here. It's heartbreaking to be robbed (from experience).
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, GET AN ALARM.
I've persuaded and helped quite a few folks get an alarm set up that calls their mobile when triggered and has worked to deter thieves and get the owner back in time. See below for links.
