Hi,

We would like to have internet on our finca.
With our mobile phone we receive internet, but only with "E" so not on 3G.

What are the alternatives?

Thanks in advance!

It depends where you live.  The alternatives are radio link to Iberbanda, Eurona or Guifinet (if you are in line of sight with one of their relays) or satellite.
I would recommend Guifinet for speed and price.
Nigel can advise on Eurona.

Hello
I live in the campo near Vinaros and over the years have used a few different methods to get internet. One method was wimax, a radio system requiring the use of a small dish antenna. It was sufficient speed wise  but prone to stalling when many users on.
The second method was via satellite. This also gave a UK IP address. 50€ month. Fast speed but limited to 30Gbytes/month. You could pay more for more data. No problems at all
The system I use now is Orange 4G en casa. Very fast
20Mbits down and 10Mbits up. 35Gbytes/month for €30.
I use an external antenna (yagi array - like a tv antenna) to get a decent signal from  the transmitter site 5km away
No problems at all with the setup now. I watch a fair bit of online TV when we cant get it via Sky

Hi David,
Your antenna is inside attached to the orange box or outside on the roof?
We tried the Orange 4g en casa 1 day, but the signal was very unstable: 1 minute internet and 10 minutes off.
Would an external antenna help?

Hello,
The receiver/router supplied by orange was a huawei cpe 4g e5172 which came supplied with an antenna that screwed on to the antenna socket. I could get a signal but it was weak on 4g using this stubby antenna. H+ signal was good tho.
I have about 10m of coax to an external aerial on the roof. The aerial is a yagi array and thus is directional. This works fine. I bought the aerial off ebay UK and it was posted to me in spain.
It all depends on the orange 4g coverage. It is being extended.
If you think you might need the satellite connection, I have all the equipment you need. I advertised it on this forum a while back for €50

The question is where are you as it makes a difference for coverage.
Eurona is a non-starter as they have taken a strategic decision to either sell or let their wimax die naturally so no more installations - I now install Ebretic and PC-Hard, depending on where as they have different coverage.

So, where are you based?

Difficult to know the answer.

It does mean that the speed you have is the maximum you're going to get as they are not allowing any upgrades to higher speed.

The speeds from the new providers are much higher, with PC-Hard (El Perello, Burgar valley, L'Ametlla) they provide up to 20Mb, with Ebretic (Tortosa, Jesus, Roquetes, L'Ampolla, Camarles, St. Carles, Amposta, La Galera etc..) I've seen speeds up to 75Mb.

I've one customer near L'Ametlla who Eurona have told they can no longer provide service to so I'm changing them to another supplier.

Eurona have become very focused on 4G in cities where they think they will pick up lots of new customers. The result is that they are not investing anything in their WiMax network or opening any new areas.

Yes I install it as Eurona have basically abandoned rural internet.
Very good fast service, typically 25Mb + speed, faster in some places.

Costs 14 euros + IVA per month for unlimited use.

If you're interested let me know.

Am beginning to think Eurona have already pulled the plug on rural internet round here... It has been getting slower almost daily. 30 June my speed was 4.56 Mbps download which was not great... Lots of bluffering. Today it is currently 0.07 Mbps and am being told that an update for my MacBook will take 4 days 11 hours !! I should have done it mid afternoon when it reached to dizzying speed of 0.38 Mbps !!
Anyone else suffering in the same way ??

I don't know what is going on and can't get an answer. It seems loads of people are suffering the same problem and calling customer services doesn't seem to resolve it.

I'm changing loads of people from Eurona to Ebretic at the moment and they are typically getting 25Mb+ speed.
