If you are in the uk why not sign up for evening classes.
Also I use a very good app called Duolingo
It makes you speak and listen.

HI.   I recommend this online course which I have done myself and is free unless you require certification.  In addition to a very sound introduction to grammar and vocabulary, it includes audio and video of authentic Spanish speakers and you get the opportunity to interact with other students and the course tutors.
Check it out:

P.S.  If you have any basic questions about Spanish or the other local language, Catalá, I am happy to answer them.

Spanish with Michel Thomas worked for me. It teaches you the structure and rules of the language - no books or need to write anything down.

Also, when you have a basic grasp, buy the Spanish language version of a book you have read in English. This helps as you already know the story so you can make sense of the bits you don't understand.

The first one I read was 'Sobre Limones' - 'Driving over lemons'  by Chris Stewart

A bit later I read 'Brujas de viaje' (Witches abroad) by Terry Pratchett, thinking it would be easy to read - now I have Spanish vocabulary for werewolves, goblins, fairy godmothers etc. which proves very useful in day to day life  Grin

I mentioned to my neighbour that I was using Michel Thomas cd’s to learn Spanish and he said to me, ‘what on earth are you doing trying to learn Spanish from a Frenchman?
I’ll teach you.’
I then pointed out that he (my neighbour) is in fact German.  🤣🤣🤣

I just ‘googled’ him and saw that he was not only Polish but also a nazi hunter. That could explain my neighbour’s reaction 🤭

Hi All
Thank you all for your good advice, just to let you know i have signed up for an evening class here in the uk. i should have done it years ago as we have had our place in the mountains for nearly 11 years. just need to get a grasp of the basics, so i will update you on how it goes.
Regards.
