Hi
Don't know where abouts you are situated, but Doctor Jaume Banque in Xerta speaks English.  The beauty of the Spanish sytem is that you can sign up to a doctor's practice anywhere, so even if you don't live in Xerta (we live in Alfara although we are with the doctor in Xerta) you can still register there.

Dr Pepio in Ferreries speaks very acceptable English.  You will have to be lucky though to get on his patients list.  All doctors speak some English, they have to to pass their degree.  That they want to is another thing.  YOu have to try starting off in Spanish or Catalan they hope they take pity on you!!

Tried the doctor in Xerta, but didn't find him very approachable.  Decided to bite the bullet and sign on in Jesus and try my limited Spanish.  Delighted to find one of the doctors, Dr Pons, not only speaks English but delights in it!  He's a young Cuban and very good.

I would be very interested in the English speaking doctor in Jesús.  (I assume there is only the one practice in the building adjoining the little market hall.)  The paediatrician was very good with our daughter but my Spanish is not up to the technical medic-speak.

To clarify, Dr Pons in Jesus was away for a few months and his work was done by a temp (young, cuban and spoke english!). Dr Pons is now back and after seing him we can confirm he does not speak english! We signed on in Jesus couple of years ago and have yet to come across a doctor who speaks english. However one of the nurses here does speak some english and has been very patient and helpful.

Dr. Jaume Banque in Xerta is more than just approachable. He is the reason my husband is receiving such wonderful health care out here, and it is care, patience and skill and liaising with numerous specialists at Tortosa Verge del a Cinta , that he is still alive! When he has been critically ill, he even rings us at home for daily reports, likewise has the cardiologist done so too. When did you ever have a doctor ring you at home to enquire on your husbands condition?

He does likewise in caring for my mother too. We could not wish for a better doctor

Dr.Duvel in Aldover also speaks very good English.

The Cap Salud by the Bus Terminus will always find staff there who speak English.

Afterall, it is up to us to command Spanish or research the vocabulary we need before we go to hospital or a doctors appointment and take a decent dictionary with you. I know I spend hours at different appointments with them, but you sure grasp the language quickly. Meet them halfway. Don´t get aggressive. If you don´t understand what they are saying, ask them for a printout and work it out at home.

Hi Ebrovoice
We have a wonderful Doctor in Aldover, who is learning to Speak English  his name is Joan Enric Vidal Ruiz, what is more he has a sense of humour, and he doesn't bat an eyelid when you tell him how much you drink, and Fransisco the male nurse is even more amusing always a smile and pleasant attitude.

Mind you I shouldn't be passing this information on as we will never get an appointment now!!

Keep up th posting makes life more interesting

How did the dentist understand your English with a mouth full of cotton plugs?

Now that Dr Banque has left the practice in Xerta does anyone know of any other English speaking doctors in the Roquetes area ?  Is the doctor at Aldover as recommended a few years ago still there ?  Any help or advice would be appreciated.  Although I can now make myself understood in Spanish I am not sure that it is up to conversing medically.
