cold pressed olive oil..?

Hi all:
Does anyone know where we could get some of our olives cold pressed, using the old fashioned olive press..??  not last winter, but the one before we had some made into oil for own use down at the mill, and it was ok....but have a hankering to see if we could make it super-doop by having it done in the traditional way, with some of our "bestest" olives this year coming.

HI Liz,

Can't answer your question but you might find some answers here: http://www.mapa.es/portada_en.htm. ; Also, have you tried the Coop. Agricola Sant Isidre in Mas de Barberans?  I don't know if they cold press but they do produce virgin olive oil.

Good luck, and let us know if you have any joy.

Hi Liz
Try the Moli in Tivenys. They use a modern press but it is cold press. If you pick and press on the same day you get better quality oil. The quality is dependant on the residual acidity in the olives. Less than .1% produces Extra Virgin 1. Virgin  over about 3 it becomes industrial (I think, if I have remembered the figures correctly).

Intersting site to check out is http://www.geocities.com/~gianno/angi2.html#Planting . All about olives this page is planting but much more.

So no need to do the shower thing unless you use olive oil for tanning lotion.

Cold, First press Extra Virgin Oilive Oil. Every time !

Lyn

Hi Liz,

The moli in the main street of Perello is doing it the old fashioned way. Very nice owner too, loves too give visitors the grand tour. If you are coming on the N340 from the direction of Amettla its on the left side if you enter the main street of Perello (I guess about the 10th house or so).

You could try getting an apple press and crushing your own, it would take time though, but you could do it in small batches, I'm looking forward to a curry

I have just bought a 5 litre stainless steel apple press that i have been assured by the Italian manufacturers will crush olives down to the pips so I will let you know how it works later.
Hopefully I will have gallons of organic cold pressed oil for everyone Smiley
