SadThere was a forest fire in the mountains just off the road to the windmills from Camarles.  There were two planes a helicopter, two fire engines an ambulance and two police cars in attendance. It took over four hours to get under control. Not sure of the damage or if anyone was injured.

It was reported as being in Perello - no-one hurt although someone has been detained for it.

TongueIt was just inside the boundary of El Perello.  I live near to where it was and the crossroads are where the boundaries of Camarles, Tortosa and El Perello meet.

Yes, very bad news for the English man who was arrested and will no doubt have to pay a huge fine. Also for the other land owners who lost their land and a casita to the fire. Took the bombers 2 hours to get there by which time 10 hectares was burnt. It just demonstrates how incredibly careful you have to be when burning prunings in the campo. When you put out a fire never leave it until you are absolutely sure it is out, dead, as the slightest spark will re-ignite. When will the authorities realise that the whole habit of burning prunings is outdated! Surely they could arrange for mechanical wood-chippers to be available at various points to reduce the practice of burning? At the moment it is the only option and accidents like this will continue to happen.

It stil seems that the locals are oblivious to the fact that burning is banned, plenty of fires this morning around the Xerta area.

Yes Chris,
We also still have some locals burning in our valley (Els Reguers area),either very early in the morning or during the lunch break!   Undecided

Just checked with Camarles town hall and there is no ban on burning in the Camarles district - licences are still valid.

However there are restrictions in force in other parts of Catalunya and they keep a page updated showing the different levels of risk - their Plan Alpha (pla alfa)
can be found at http://www.gencat.cat/medinatural/incendis/plaalfa/

Further to the above there is also another map on the same site - http://www.gencat.cat/medinatural/incendis/mapaperill/ which shows the various danger levels of forest fire.

We are at moderate risk here in Camarles - whatever that means
