Have you seen the weather forecast?

I'm thinking of moving somewhere warmer.  Any suggestions?

Seriously, I know that this part of catalunya is well known for its high winds but I've never known it go on for so long and there is no respite in sight for at least  the next week  Sad.  We had 127km ratxes yesterday.

Yes, it seems crazy that a couple of days last week, it was calm, sunny, and over 24 degrees.
Then from no where that horrible wind came back causing havoc again. It often happens at this time of year, and goes on for several days at a time.
Hope there hasn't been too much damage done around here.
Soon be Summer,  and we will all be sweltering again!

Wow, come on guys. It is the start of Feb. Sure, January was windy but nowhere near as cold as usual. Back in the UK you couldn't poke your nose out of the door until May, I've been working outside all through. The wind is tiring and it stops you having bonfires but it's not wet and mostly not too cold either.
If you can think of somewhere better all round, cost, freedom, safety, scenery and weather, let me know!

We actually had TVE up here at the weekend because of the high winds.  127kph recorded which I'm not prepared to work in, we've had olive branches flying past us and lost two satellite dishes that hadn't even been used.  I agree high winds for a few days are normal this time of year but this is something else.  A friend told us today that people in Xerta had lost windows too.

Anyhoo, I was being tongue in cheek about looking for somewhere else, I love it here just frustrated that we can't get on with the work we want to in our finca.  Thankfully the forecast looks like the wind is going to slow down by Sunday.

My friend's sheds in Rasquera were blown down. So pretty strong wind I would say.

It's not difficult to work out when a wind is due.  If, on the Met Office north Atlantic chart (  http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/surface_pressure.html )  you see a high (anticyclone) out in the Atlantic and a cyclone in the Med, often over Italy, work out the pressure gradiant - the difference between the highest pressure in one and the lowest pressure in the other.  The higher this difference is, and the shorter the distance between the centres of the two indicates the ferocity of the gale.   And the gales won't go until (usually) the cyclone goes off into east Europe.  The High could be almost static for some days.  Also watch the clouds - altocumulus lenticularus (as in latin for 'lens') a.k.a. the space ship cloud - is an indicator of an almost certain gales within 24 hours.  If you're interested have a look at least at the cloudappreciationsociety.org ....then get hooked on meteorology and get a weather station.

The locals say that if the mountain has eyebrows then tomorrow it will be windy. No looking at charts, just local knowledge.

Si la montaņa tiene cejas maņana tendremos viento.

cejas pronounced "the (the as in there) has"

It's only a fiver or so, maybe ten.  You get a certificate ! and membership  number and adhoc newsletters with members' photos.  Thanks for the thanks.

If I've done everything right then soon there'll be a weather station reporting conditions at Jesus, Tortosa on www.weatherunderground.com
