One for Nigel ! I received an email about this service, it says that hundreds of tv programmes can be obtained via your computer without any dishes etc, just a download costing 50$   a one off payment.  Is this true & will it work? Undecided

Think it will work great now, but when everybody wants to use it, when no T.V. available, it will not cope.

we've been using it for about 2 years,it's very good.A lot of these payment streams are actually originally free, some shysters just charge you for it if they can.

I pay for a vp connection and watch both BBC iplayer and sky  with a 1mb connection. It's costs me £5 per month and it doesn't lag or pixellate.
No extra adverts!
Well worth it.
I use myExpatUk

As Rita says, it's ok at the moment as the respective systems aren't loaded with users. Unfortunately there is limited bandwidth that is shared between all users and if loaded heavily it will start to suffer.

Remember that ALL the providers only guarantee 10% of the speed you contract on a residential package. The rest is a 'bonus' when it's there.  Streaming services usually require 2Mb connections, some lower quality ones work on lower speeds but you will suffer with picture quality.

If you are watching on a pc/laptop screen you won't notice the lack of quality too much but on a big flat screen tv you will certainly notice it - this is the reason (or at least one of them) for the introduction of HD channels as the SD lack of quality is becoming more noticeable the bigger screens get.

ADSL works differently to WiMax and IPTV is fine on that but WiMax is a different beast (Eurona, Iberbanda, NetPorts, GifiNet etc..) and may start suffering dropouts when loaded.

I am testing out a couple of different IPTV systems but they both suffer the same problems of reliability on WiMax connections.
