LOST NIE CARD! can i get replacement? (Read 5012 times)

	Hi Guys, I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction? I cant seem to find my NIE card, Any ideas how to go about getting a replacement? I've just purchased a piece of land and am coming over next week to sign etc and cant find my card anywhere. Is it necessary when purchasing a property or will just my number do? or passport number? I'm hoping it may already be over there but want to have a back up plan just incase. Thanks in advance

	Do you know your NIE number or better still have you kept a photocopy thereof? I'm not sure how you ended up with a card. I think most of us have the (new green) piece of paper only. The old hands amongst us will tell you to take every official document you can lay your hands on as you never cease to be surprised what they ask for and what will do in your circumstances.

	No we don't have N.I.E card, only green paper. If you are using a solicitor, or notary, to buy the land, phone them and ask for advice. Otherwise you may have to go in person with passport, etc. etc. and try and get a copy of your N.I.E. and hope that it is done quickly.

	We just bought some property and needed both NIE /Green card and Passport. Notary told us without the NIE/greencard it is now not possible to purchase anything. However Getting a replacement I believe you need to provide all the same paperwork that you provided the first time around. And takes the same amount of time and stupid o'clock visits to the office in Tortosa Correct me if Im wrong though. Good luck with your purchase. Sarah

	Sorry yes it could have been a green piece of paper for some reason I was thinking green card but I'm probably wrong, I've got so many pieces of paper from purchasing my previous property but just cant seem to find that piece! Yes I know my NIE number and have it printed on lots of different papers including bank account papers, escritura for last property so I'm hoping this will be enough to go by. Also I will be over with all these documents and my passport so fingers crossed. Bunter- I'm definitely not anywhere near as organised as the girl on that video! she wasn't gonna take manyana as an answer!

	Panic over!!! I found it in an old email from the solicitors I used last time, because I gave the power of attorney to them to obtain my NIE on my behalf last time they just emailed it to me as an attachment so I've now printed it off (twice) Thanks for everyones help

	Remember the NIE is only valid for 3 months if it is out of date will not be accepted by the Notario

	I have used my existing N.I.E, often during the last few months. Once being at a Notary office. They last for life? I think you need to get a NEW empadrament, when buying a new car etc.

	.. the bizarre thing is that the NIE (old White paper one) says it is only valid for 3 months but by some beurocratic failing it doesn't (or the ones I've seen don't) actually have a date on it.

	The NIE number is for life .The new NIE paper states at the bottom that it is for 3 months so if that's not written on it must be older than the 3 months and necessary to be renewed when needed for legal purposes
