I cant see this airport being any use to people from our area (ginestar) it looks to far off the beaten track, ryan air have a lot to answer for the way they just dumped the northern airports to reus flights i will only use them if i have no alternative much sooner fly easy jet or jet 2 if everybody did the same they might realise how much inconvenience they have caused people

Robo what are you talking about?
Ryanair is a business not a social service for northerners or anyone else.
The airport authorities here stopped the subsidies, so therefore making it unviable to operate half empty flights.
I have been on a 99 pence flight to reus with 6 people on board, I don't think there would have been much profit on that occasion!
If it was worthwhile flying into Reus then I'm sure your favourite airlines (easy jet , jet2 or even British airways) would step up to the mark and help you out.
Also just out of interest from ginestar to castellon takes 2 hours and is 156 km.
from ginestar to Barcelona airport  takes 2 hours 2 minutes and is 146.7km
So I suppose you could say that Barcelona is as much off the beaten track as castellonšŸ˜€

Difference is Jack Barcelona has a main line railway service covering this area I can't see a train line anywhere near Castilloion airport on the maps if reus is so unprofitable for ryan air then why do they fly there from southern airports not to mention Dublin

That's a good point there,

On the subject of car rentals from airports....BBC radio 4 You & Yours Consumer affairs show last week raised the cost issue.
Apparently some airport car rental firms also have offices in the nearby towns and charge a lot less for the same class of vehicle. It may be worth getting a bus into the town and collecting a car there.
The cost savings on some airports v towns were considerable.
Worth looking into.

The nearest train station is Torreblanca I believe, it is more or less the same distance as Reus to Tarragona.

Why Ryanair start or drop flights can only be down to economics whether that is subsidies or cheaper landing fees. If you want the flights at the right prices you simply have to go to / from where they are. I have flown into Barca, Valencia and Reus, and departed from Luton, Stansted, Gatwick & East Mid's, for my flight next week I am flying to Zaragozza. As Jack rightly says Ryanair is not a social service and to put it in perspective the flight cost is still cheaper than the taxi I get to a UK Airport.

I know this thread is about Car Hire Rita, but I just wanted to also let people know about driving from the Tortosa area to Castellon airport.I have dropped off & picked up recently here & the Journey time from my neck of the woods (Els Reguers) took around 1 Hour 15 Mins using the AP7 motorway.Toll cost Euros 8.90 each way from L'Aldea. What can be a nightmare isĀ  leaving the motorway & getting on the C13 (Road on which the airport is off of).Its an absolute nightmare!!!!! The road climbs uphill for most of the way & is single lane (except for about a 2 KM stretch, where it is 2 lanes) and seems to be loaded with heavy lorries!!!! Hence a very, very slow approach to the airport.
Now the pick up & drop off was for the Ryanair Bristol flight, which may just coincide with heavy traffic on the C13,this I am not sure of? Anyway this will add extra time to the Journey. The N340 is also an option & takes about 1 Hour 30 Mins for me in rush hour traffic.Good bypass now around Vineros,Benicarlo & Peniscola, but of course this is single lane all the way.The CV10 is another option, but look at around 1 hour 40 mins from the Tortosa area.
Still longer in journey time (although around the same distance I think) than driving to Reus! (using N340 & A7 or AP7) But of course the reduction in fights into Reus means Castellon is the nearest airport if you want to fly into Bristol.
I feel the best option in future for me on the outward journey is Hife bus to El Prat (from Tortosa) only 2 hours 15 mins (or sometimes less) around Euros 21 (Cheaper if buying multi tickets) & then Easyjet into Bristol.(better depart times). The inward times for Easyjet are not so great, especially if you want to use Public transport in both Countries. So maybe into Castelleon may be worth it,providing a way round the C13 can be found? (Using last part of journey on the CV10 maybe? then joining the C13 from its opposite end?) Anyway, just some thoughts, which I hope can be of assistance to would be TF folks thinking about using Castellon airport.
