mezzanine construction

Hello all
We have an old stone casita/almacen joined to our newer livable casita.
We plan to knock through and use the almacen as our main lounge/study area with a mezzanine double bedroom on one side.
The area is approx 4m by 2m. We are in two minds as to whether we lodge wooden roof beams into the walls to run the 4m length of the floor - or our second idea would be to build 4 corner block supports to run a couple of beams along the smaller sides and then have the 4m beams on top of these.
The roof has been raised at some point and a new roof constructed over the old casita and newer casita. We don't know if this includes a ringbeam.
We are hoping someone out there has done similar and can give us some
advice.
Many thanks in advance
Haze and Alan

Recommend strongly against the use of wooden beams !!

Its illegal in Spain to use wooden beams as main support beams as the termites get to them.!! Undecided Undecided

Much safer to use concrete vegas, and yes I know they look ugly but you could always clad them in wood planks or fake foam wooden beam covers

If you use wood you may have building reg problems if you ever come to sell!!

Wow! Only 2 views and a reply already  Smiley
Yes, concrete vigas would make more sense.  I wanted to avoid these if we could because it will only be just above head height
and didn't fancy Al scraping his head if he was wearing his stilletoes  Shocked
