OAP coming to live in Spain

To save me hours if not days of trawling the Internet for information, does anyone know the correct sequence of events for my 80 year old Father to come here to live with us. Obviously when he arrives I will take him for a NIE number, but after that what?

My Mum died here just over a year ago, and he wanted to go back to the UK because he said he could never master the language or communicate with anyone, but he's really not coping well on his own in the UK, and has finally decided to come here.

Do we start with the pensions people in the UK, or or ?

His house went on the market 2 days ago, and he already has people wanting to view, so this could happen fairly quickly.

Any advise would be welcome.

Jools

Hi Jools, when we moved here the first thing we needed to do was to apply for our health cards.  In order to do this your father will need to apply for an E121 from the pensions department in Newcastle giving details of his expected date of departure from the UK.  This, when he gets here, he will then need to take to the INSS in order for them to check his eligibility with the UK.  This takes a few weeks (as is the norm) but they should then issue him with a letter to take to his doctor over here so that the health card can be issued.  At least that was the way they did it in Catalonia when we came over - whether it is the same in Aragon or not I don't know, but would imagine so.  Of course, he will still need to be able to obtain any medication he is taking whilst he is waiting for the card to be issued.  So if he can get his doctor to issue some prescriptions in order that he can obtain a supply to bring with him before he comes over it would help.  Also, if his doctor can print off the details of his prescriptions to bring with him then he will probably be able to go into a chemist and purchase over the counter if necessary.
Hope that helps.
Tony

Hi Jools,
Not to sure about the pension side but the housing market is pretty good despite some doom mongers.
We got an offer within 5 days after going back to wallop ours with magnolia but nothing like early 2007 prices. For once estate agents are actually earning their corn and it has to be realistically priced.
Prices now, compared to then are about 25% down (thanks to 'Sir' Freddie and his league of shysters)

Re the pension, someone needs to just phone the office (in Newcastle I think) and they'll take the details of the bank account here that you want it paid into.  They're very helpful.
