hello people,
I was wondering if anyone has (recent) experience with drilling for water and what that entails , do I need a licence ? is it more expensive the higher up you are ?
I have no idea how to go about this.
any info would be a great help
thanks in advance

We were quoted about €70 per metre. Depends on who you use as to whether or not they will get the required licences. They always over drill to allow for for a sump and usually in the summer when the water table is at its lowest.
Worked out I'd be 125 years old before I saw a return with water at 180 metres down

Yes you have to have a licence and drilling costs about €120 and €180 a metre all in, more if you go below 200 metres (this is from a few years ago) There is no guarantee that you will reach any water but you still have to pay for the licence and the drilling whatever happens.  Obviously if you go below 200metres you will be paying out a lot more for pumps if you do reach water.

I thoroughly recommend you get a proper quote with a very detailed description of everything included (or not).
