Every year at the end of October one of our cats from England gets very itchy & is constantly scratching his head, chin & ears, biting his tail & front legs resulting in fur loss, bleeding & scabs which then become infected. It continues until April. The vet has tested for ear mites etc & is all clear, he thinks it's an allergy which is probably correct as he seems fine when inside the house except for the sores & scabs which are itchy. Stronghold & Frontline have no effect. So we manage it quite well using anti histamine tablets, occasional steroid tablets, a cream called Panolog & sometimes an anti fungal, mite & dermatitis suspension in his ears, but it's a constant battle to administer resulting in him being very wary of us. The other cats are fine.
Just wondering if anyone else has cats with this same problem at this time of year & how you manage it.

Our white cat gets this itchiness every year at this time of year.  It must be some sort of allergy to something like an agricultural spray that is used on the trees at the beginning of autumn, or some kind of plant that produces a certain fruit or pollen (figs and olives fall onto the ground at this time). We regularly use Stronghold on the cats and our white cat has been examined for mites in the past and given the all clear. We swab with cotton wool the yellow liquid called Povidona on the scabs and this seems to help minimise scratching and therefore helps the scabs to heal.  We usually find the problem starts to disappear in the new year.
